Lampton Leisure Partners With West Thames College and Hounslow Council To Train Next Generation Of Leisure Centre Managers
Lampton Leisure has announced a new partnership with West Thames College and the London Borough of Hounslow. The partnership is designed to equip local residents who are currently out of employment with the skills and qualifications needed to operate leisure centres across the borough.
With training and development continuing to challenge recruitment in the sport and leisure industry, this innovative new programme will provide local employment opportunities while preparing the next generation of leisure centre managers. The seven-week course will include a National Pool Lifeguard Qualification run from Hanworth Airpark in November, First Aid training and a Level 3 in Leisure Centre Management, with classes at West Thames College.
In addition to academic qualifications, the cohort of trainee leisure centre managers will have the opportunity to apply for roles at Lampton Leisure facilities across Hounslow after completing their course. Successful candidates will start their new positions in January, with a clear career pathway and opportunities for progression over time.
Sarah Taplin, Group Talent Manager, Lampton Group, said: “We are incredibly proud of this initiative. As a committed local employer, we want to ensure that we are creating long-term and rewarding career paths for all our employees. Through this partnership, we will offer both crucial local employment opportunities and valuable qualifications that have the potential to enhance the career aspirations of Hounslow residents.”
Eric Stober, Director of Business, ICT, Travel and Partnerships at West Thames College, said: ‘We are delighted to be partnering with both Lampton Leisure and Hounslow Council on this initiative. Through this new course, we will be able to bring together local people and equip them with valuable skills that will support their future development in the leisure industry, while also giving them a real-world understanding of how they are applied in practice.”
Councillor Salman Shaheen, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Public Spaces at Hounslow Council, said: “We are thrilled to be launching this partnership with Lampton Leisure and West Thames College. Through Work Hounslow, the Council’s Skills and Employment Team, we are supporting our communities and providing upskilling pathways that lead to local employment opportunities. This partnership marks the beginning of a collaborative working initiative that aims to do just that.”
Councillor Samia Chaudhary, Cabinet Member for Education, Children, Skills and Employment at Hounslow Council, added: “To empower residents to find good work, Work Hounslow has been organising regular drop-in sessions across the borough and recently hosted a job fair for women, offering free information, advice and guidance. In addition, subject to eligibility for our career support programme, funded by the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, the costs for residents attending training at West Thames College can be covered. I urge anyone interested to contact our employment advisors to learn more.’
